Rocky Acadia Coast
Established as Sieur de Monts National Monument by President Wilson in 1916, it was later changed to Acadia National Park in 1929, becoming the first national park east of the Mississippi. The majority of Acadia’s 47,000+ acres sprawls across Mount Desert Island and several smaller areas along the coast of Maine. Comprised of forests, lakes, rocky coastlines and granite domes, Acadia also features the highest point on the East Coast, Cadillac Mountain.
