Transparent Blue Tahoe – Behind the Scenes

For the first painting in my new standard horizontal format I decided to paint beautiful Lake Tahoe. Tahoe stirs up so many idyllic recollections for me. As a young kid, our family had a cabin in the mountains along the American River. With Lake Tahoe so close and family friends with a cabin on the lake, our family made frequent trips to the lake from our cabin. I have fond memories of playing on the beach, fishing for crawdads with bacon and string, and water skiing when I got older. While creating this painting, the biggest challenge was getting the colors of the transparent water just right to capture the unique look of Tahoe.  There was a lot of love that went into creation of this painting.
