Sprawling Monument Valley – Behind the Scenes

With this design, I was really looking forward to painting another desert scene, since I have found myself painting quite a few mountain scenes over the years. Although the mountains are one of my favorite places to visit, I appreciate the unique beauty that each of the regions offer. This is only my second desert based painting so far. I created this design awhile back, waiting for my father to come out of a heart valve surgery. My father was a real cowboy and loved riding horses and working on his family ranch. He also enjoyed watching all types of westerns, many of which took place in this iconic Monument Valley. I had been looking forward to painting this image for some time.
